“A Sailor’s Songbag”
-songs from the seven seas -
David presents “shanties” and “fo’castle” sailor songs, sing-alongs and
stories about ships,
the sea, the Great Lakes,
and even the occasional pirate
performed on guitar, banjo, concertina,
dulcimer and Native American flute.
David has served as the shantyman and educator for many tall ships
including the
HMS Bounty, Clearwater, and the schooner Denis Sullivan.
He has performed at seaside festivals and events across the country.

“Graybeard, the Ancient
Mariner”
Graybeard : (gr![]()
bîrd
)
noun 1) an sage of advanced years,
2) A rolling wave on a dark sea, 3) A container for alcohol

David appears at schools, libraries, events and festivals as Graybeard, the
Ancient Mariner,
where he sings songs and talks to kids about his life as a sailor.
Like the Ancient Mariner of the Coleridge poem,
Greybeard is a wizened mariner wandering the world recounting his
stories.
Graybeard carries a treasure chest full of maritime artifacts to stimulate
questions
and gives honest, historical answers to what kids want to know about his life at
sea.
(With a name like "Drake", the sea is in David's blood!)
